About us

What is the Feminist Sound Lab ?

The Feminist Sound Lab is a collective response to persistent gender inequalities in the music industry – rooted in the belief that meaningful change can only happen through solidarity and collaboration across borders.

Running from December 2025 to March 2027, the Feminist Sound Lab is a hands-on laboratory for change where women and gender-minority artists, trainers, and cultural organizers can learn, create, & collaborate across borders.

Empowering

collaboration…

Our mission is to strengthen the position of women and gender-minority professionals in the music industry by creating hands-on opportunities to learn, experiment, and work together. Through shared practice and collective learning, we aim to build stronger networks, skills, and pathways for sustainable careers in music.

Through workshops, music camps, training sessions, and performances, the Feminist Sound Lab transforms rehearsal rooms and stages into inclusive spaces for exchange, cooperation, and long-term solidarity across diverse cultural contexts.

…For more women

in music

Across Europe, women make up only 21.8% of artists over ten years, with even lower numbers in roles like producers (6.5%) and songwriters (19.5%). Moreover, 51% of female musicians report experiencing gender discrimination, compared to just 6% of men.

Key factors contributing to this gap include systemic bias and historical male dominance in the industry, limited mentorship and professional networks and lack of safe, inclusive work environments.

The Feminist Sound Lab positions as both a creative tool & a political practice, helping participants gain confidence, visibility, & sustainable careers in music.
